Dugout Ready

Welcome to Dugout Ready

Built by a rec league parent-coach, for rec league parent-coaches.

Hey, Coach. I built this because I've been exactly where you are.

I've seen every version of the spreadsheet get passed around. I've tried the half-baked apps that don't account for the real stuff... the kid who shows up after you already printed the lineup, the league rules that say every player has to rotate through the infield, the parent who's convinced their kid is playing outfield too much.

We love coaching. But building a fair lineup that follows the rules, keeps the parents happy, and doesn't take 45 minutes in the parking lot before the game? That part's hard. Dugout Ready was made to fix that.

This tool is built for the nuances. And we're hyper-responsive to feedback... if something doesn't work the way you need it to, tell us. We'll add it.

Here's a quick walkthrough of what you've got:

📱

How to Access This App

You can always log in from any browser on a laptop, desktop, or iPad at app.dugoutready.com. But since this is a web app, you can also pull it up right on your phone.

Once you open it on your phone, you can add it to your home screen and it'll look and feel just like a regular mobile app. Same icon, same full-screen experience... it just runs through your browser behind the scenes.

On iPhone: Tap the share button (the square with the arrow), then scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen."

On Android: Tap the three-dot menu in Chrome, then tap "Add to Home screen."

We may build a full standalone mobile app down the road, but the web app format keeps things quick, fast, and easy to update.

Team Setup

Your starting point. Add your team name, coaches, and team mom/dad info. Set your team colors (the app will match). Then dial in the details that matter:

  • Coach pitch or kid pitch
  • 3 outfielders or 4
  • Which position stays empty when only 9 kids show up instead of 10

This is also where you'll load your players and rate their skills... hitting, speed, fielding ground balls, catching fly balls, and arm strength. These ratings feed directly into how the app builds your batting order and fielding rotation. You can update ratings anytime as kids improve (or have a rough stretch).

Tip: Check the "Coach's Kid" box for your own child. The app will monitor for unintentional favoritism in position assignments so you don't have to second-guess yourself.

League Rules

We all know this is one of the most critical pieces. You get that copy of the league rules and you're trying to remember it all while building the lineup... every kid has to play infield at least twice, can't play the same position back-to-back, everyone has to catch, and on and on.

Here's where you can literally just copy and paste your league rules and the AI will read them, understand them, and make sure every lineup it builds is fully compliant. No more guessing, no more violations you didn't catch until a parent pointed it out.

Also drop in any call-up rules here... if you're short players and calling up a kid from another team, there are usually specific restrictions (outfield only, certain batting position). The tool will enforce those too.

Game Day

Game time. Enter the opponent, location, date, time, and whether it's regular season or playoffs (which may adjust the rules). Check off which kids are showing up.

Batting Order ... Choose anywhere from completely random (great for tee ball when it doesn't matter) to fully optimized based on hitting ability and what performs well in baseball stats. Once it generates, you can manually swap players and hit regenerate until it looks right.

Fielding Rotation ... This is the real magic. Same slider from random to 100% skills-based, but always staying compliant with your league rules. It generates the full visual of every position for every inning, plus a cross-check table that confirms zero rule violations.

Save & Print generates a clean one-page PDF with your batting order and fielding plan. Hand it to your assistant coaches and team parent.

At the field and a kid shows up who said they weren't coming? Or one doesn't show? Pop in, add or remove them, and regenerate. You can also add a call-up player from another team with specific rule limits (outfield only, certain batting order spot). No more scrambling with pen and paper. Share the updated lineup to your coaches' and team parent's phones instantly.

Game Ball

You know the moment... game's over, kids are looking at you, and you can't remember who got the game ball last week. Did you write it down somewhere? Probably not. Now you've got a spot to track every game ball so it's always there when you need it.

Game History & Upset Parent Meter

Full history of every game, with the option to log scores after each one. No more trying to remember if you put it in GameChanger or not.

The Upset Parent Meter ... Half joke, fully real. We've all been there. Sometimes you do it without even realizing... a kid ends up in the outfield three games in a row, or your own kid keeps landing at shortstop. This shows you the full position distribution for every player across the season so you can spot anything that looks off before a parent brings it up.

Uniform Info

Log what the league provides and what parents need to buy... hat, jersey, pants, belt, socks, cleats. Drop in Amazon links or store links so the team mom can send it all out in one shot. Coordinating sock colors has never been this organized. More features coming soon with a dedicated Team Mom/Dad tool.

Field Configuration

Leave catcher open when short-rostered ? No Catcher When Short: When your team has fewer players than field positions (e.g. 9 players for 10 positions), the algorithm needs to leave one position empty.

When ON: The catcher position is left open. All outfield spots stay filled. This is the preferred option for most youth coaches since outfield coverage matters more than having a catcher (the backstop handles passed balls).

When OFF: The algorithm leaves an outfield position open instead, filling catcher normally.

Example: You have 9 players and 10 positions. With this ON, you'll see 9 players across P, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, LC, RC, RF with no one at C. The backstop catches pitches.

📋 League Rules

The lineup generator will interpret and enforce these rules automatically.

① Standard Fielding Rules

What are your league's standard fielding rules? How often can a player play infield, how many times can they play each position, etc.

② Playoff Rules

Any exceptions to the standard regular season rules that are relaxed during playoffs?

③ Call-Up Player Rules

Sometimes you may be short a player and can call up a player from another league. Your league may have restrictions on what positions that player can play.

📱 GameChanger Info COMING SOON

GameChanger is the mobile app most youth leagues use to track games, stats, and team communication. This section will include a link for all parents to download the app, instructions on how to find your team, and tips for using the chat feature to stay connected during the season.

📅 Game Info

Playoff Game ? Playoff Game (This Game Only): Overrides the team default for this specific game.

When OFF (Regular Season Rules):
• No player at the same position more than 2 times
• Every player gets 2+ infield innings
• No player sits twice before everyone has sat once
• No back-to-back bench innings
• Catcher = max 1 infield credit

When ON (Playoff Rules): Full rotation rules enforced through inning 5. After inning 5, rules relax so you can optimize for winning: catchers can repeat, your best infielders can stay put, and position limits loosen.

Tip: If you're in a regular season game but want tighter control in late innings, leave this OFF. The algorithm will enforce fair rotation the entire game.

📋 Season Totals

Cumulative position breakdown across all saved games. Use this to track fairness over the entire season.

😡 Upset Parent Meter ? Upset Parent Meter: This analyzes your game history to flag players who might be getting the short end of the stick... and whose parents might be noticing.

What it measures:
• How often the player is stuck in outfield vs. infield
• Batting order position trends (always last?)
• Bench time compared to teammates
• Whether Coach's Kids are getting favorable treatment

How to read it:
🟢 Green = Fair distribution, happy parents
🟡 Yellow = Some imbalance, keep an eye on it
🔴 Red = Significant imbalance, a conversation with parents is probably coming

Requires at least 3 games of history to generate accurate ratings.
